This was a work of love for the fine arts auction. Materials and labor were donated and proceeds went to the Health Challenge fund.
With Gary Donahue's permission, I used his photograph of Cozy and Gary as the centerpiece of the quilt using a process where one can convert photos into colorfast fabric.
This photo has always touched my heart as I felt it portrayed the very special bond between a newf and their human. This was the last picture taken of Cozy and Gary before letting her go in peace from osteosarcoma.
I titled the quilt "The Bond Is Timeless" to showcase the them of the National Specialty "Somewhere In Time".
Little did I know that while working on this quilt my own very special newfie was fighting this same deadly disease and I lost him to osteosarcoma two weeks before the National.
"NCA Lights The Way" was the theme for the 2010 National Specialty. I was commissioned by the show chair to create a quilt for the specialty that would help raise money to support the show. The show chair was kind of partial to lighthouses so we decided to have a photo contest for NCA members photographing their newfies by lighthouses around the country.
Winners were selected and I had the task of creating a design that would showcase the individual photos as well as the logo of the National Specialty along with fabric that would tie everything together.
I used a process that converts photographs into colorfast fabrice and was able to incorporate all the elements to create a final design.
I was very pleased with the end product and I do believe the raffle held for the quilt raised a bit of money for NCA.
